Sign up to become a UVC Prayer Chaplain.  After this training, individuals will be interviewed then offered an invitation to join the Prayer Chaplain Team to support the community in prayer.  You do not have to live locally to participate as our training as well as our meetings are virtual/hybrid. 

Being a Prayer Chaplain is transformative soul work as it deepens our spiritual path through prayer and service.  No prior experience in prayer or praying with others is required to serve as a Prayer Chaplain.

In this 50 hour training, you will learn about the UVC program, sacred skills, holding spiritual space, listening skills, guidelines and a variety of other topics related to prayerfully creating community through Prayer Chaplaincy.

What is a Prayer Chaplain?
A Prayer Chaplain acknowledges and calls on Spirit, lovingly listens, prays from the heart, holds in confidence what is shared. Prayer Chaplains make monthly care calls, send correspondence, use the prayer wall and interact prayerfully with the congregation on Sundays.  All are invited to hold sacred space for the community. Service is for one year and you are invited to recommit annually.

What a Prayer Chaplain is Not:
Unlike hospital, hospice, or military chaplains, Prayer Chaplains are not ordained, are not Board Certified by any nationally known organization and are not trained to counsel people. Prayer Chaplains are not trained to go out and "minister" to the community-at large but are trained as a lay resource to help meet the pastoral care needs within the community.  Prayer Chaplains are trained to do three things only:  hold spiritual space, listen, and pray. They serve as an extension of the ministry's team making personal connections with the congregation.

At the end of the training, you will have the opportunity for sacred exchange if you choose to make a generosity love offering to support the work of UVC.
